I’m writing this post still in the heartbroken state of seeing people in Lombok and Bali. My deepest condolences to all the victims of the earthquake disaster.

On Sunday morning, August 5th, 2018, I never expect that something horrible will come; I thought it will be just like any other our daily adventure day.
We woke up early on that day because we planned to go to Penglipuran Village at Bangli. Due to our last visit months ago in the afternoon, there were so many people and we couldn’t get a better picture of the village. So on this day, we want to go in the early morning to get a better shot.
With a heavy rain in the morning, we rode to Bangli at 6:30 A.M. from our home. We had our breakfast at one of the chicken porridge stalls that we met on the street. We reached Penglipuran Village at 8:30 A.M. A little bit too long because we didn’t wear any raincoat and a few times had to stop by a shelter in the middle of our trip. It was freezing…
Anyway, we made it to Penglipuran Village and as we predicted there was no visitor at that time. We took pictures and leave quickly to find a warm meal.
After enjoying flour meatball at Bangli, I actually want to visit Villa Kitty Bali while we were on our way to Ubud. But I changed my mind because it was so crazy freezing on my feet, and Willy’s jacket and pant had soaking wet because of the rain. But this weather was tempting us to eat more than our usual portion. On our way to Gianyar, we stop by the shelter and found a ketoprak food stall. Ketoprak is one of Willy’s favorite meal, it consists of rice cakes, fried tofu, rice noodles, bean sprouts served in peanut sauce. We already had three meals before 12 P.M. now.
After finishing our ketoprak, we went back home because I’m so sleepy. I woke up from my nap at 4 P.M. and prepared to go to Sunday Mass.
I thought just like our other Sunday, this adventure day will be over after the Sunday Mass ended. After the Mass ended at 7:30 P.M., we decided to hang out at the mall. Between Beachwalk, Mall Bali Galeria, or Lippo Plaza Kuta, we ended up at Discovery Mall Kuta, near our church. We were sitting on the shore of the beach at Kuta, right behind the mall… then suddenly I felt the earth shaking. It was a small shaking at first, then slowly it became a big earthquake.
People were running out from inside the building, some was screaming “earthquake!” out loud. I was in a panic, of course. But Willy told me to stay calm, not running away. I almost want to cry, tbh.
We stayed still for an hour and sat on the chair calmly while enjoying our French fries which we ordered before the earthquake incident. People were still not allowed to enter the mall. After finished it, we went back home and thankfully there were no chaotic events as we saw. Some old buildings may have ruined because of the earthquake, but Bali isn’t the main place of this disaster. What we saw on the news, Lombok had the most severe damage because of the earthquake. People are panicking over the place.
Let’s pray for Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, and for every victim. Deepest sympathies go out to them and their family. May God give them the peace.
